My Entrepreneurship Story

Over the summer last year, I got to intern at a company in New York City. This company was called Jo and Jax, which was created by two sisters, Joey and Jaclyn, who were dancers and wanted to create their own brand of dance and yoga wear. Getting to work for this company, I got to learn how the products are developed and run a photoshoot to how to successfully run social media websites to gain more customers. I got to learn how the two of them built this company from the ground up. The company is now a very popular brand among the dance world.
I chose to enroll in this class because I want to get more in depth into learning how to be an entrepreneur. I have thought in the past that it would be interesting to be my own boss and start a company from the ground up. So understanding what it takes to be an entrepreneur is what I hope to get out of this class.

  1. Hi Sarah,

Your experience interning for a fairly new company closely relates to my internship experience marketing with a start-up publishing company called Incorgnito Publishing Press. I really enjoy the way they work, and it feels like a close-knit company where everyone has their place. Did you have the same experience?

An internship working for a company that caters to the arts must have been great. My first entrepreneurial experience was playing in a band, which sort of connects with dancing and the product design itself. I find art to be fulfilling, and putting in work in the arts, to me, will never feel like work.

You said you enrolled in this class to learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur. I hope you find out what it is, and I hope I do too. Good luck!

  2. Sarah, that's so cool that you got to work for a successful company started by two young, female entrepreneurs. I believe being an entrepreneur requires experience, and I'm sure you got to see first hand how a start-up became a legitimate brand. Technology is becoming an increasingly large facet for start-ups in gaining popularity, and it looks like you got valuable experience working their social media pages. I'm also very interested in this class because I want to learn how to become my own boss one day.
